P-Cube Provides Broadband Service Providers a Solution to Manage Peer-to-Peer Network Congestion

-- Singapore’s Largest Broadband Service Provider Selects P-Cube to Provide P2P Control Solution

Sunnyvale, CA – April 14, 2003 – P-Cube Inc., the originator of programmable IP service control platforms, today announced the availability of its Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Control Solution.  Simultaneously, the company announced that SingTel, Singapore’s largest DSL service provider, has selected the P-Cube solution to address the growing congestion, and subsequent network costs incurred by Peer-to-Peer traffic on its broadband network.

“The explosion of P2P traffic creates new challenges for broadband providers,” said Mr. Michael Harris, president of research firm Kinetic Strategies, Inc.  “By effectively managing P2P traffic, broadband ISPs can increase service profitability and network performance for all customers.”

P2P applications continue to gain massive acceptance, driving increased network and Internet traffic growth on a global scale. As a result, broadband service providers incur significant costs and confront many operational challenges as they struggle with decreased quantity of available bandwidth, and the need to increase network capacity. P-Cube’s P2P control solution plays a critical role in service providers’ ability to manage P2P bandwidth usage and ensure network performance remains high, while users of peer-to-peer applications are not overly limited or restricted.

“It is increasingly important for SingNet, the ISP division of SingTel, to control its P2P traffic,” said, Mr. Ng Eng Guan, Director of Multimedia Engineering at SingTel. “P-Cube’s solution makes it possible for us to effectively identify and control P2P traffic on our network. With P-Cube, we now have the ability to reduce the overuse of our networks and moderate usage of expensive ‘transit’ links, enabling a significant cost savings. As P2P users and applications continue to grow, we look forward to expanding our relationship with P-Cube.”

“P-Cube’s P2P solution is the most effective platform available today to manage Peer-to-Peer traffic,” said Mr. Yuval Shahar, Co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of P-Cube.  “With our solution, SingTel can provide a better broadband experience to its subscriber base, and at the same time realize significant cost savings on its transit links. This is accomplished by optimizing P2P usage during peak hours and ensuring that off-net P2P usage is effectively managed.”

The P2P control solution enables service providers the ability to detect and manage P2P usage on their networks for a wide variety of protocols and variants. At the core of the solution is the P-Cube Service Engine, a purpose built IP Service Control Platform that is able to statefully detect, analyze, and control IP traffic.  P-Cube is the only solution available today addressing all the requirements for a scalable and reliable solution to be deployed in service-provider networks. The platform’s programmable interface enables the service provider to quickly respond to changing and emerging P2P applications.

The platform’s high-performance and subscriber-density, its ability to quickly adapt to changing and emerging P2P clients and applications, as well as its ability to enforce policies that are not alienating towards the subscriber base are all key to ensuring the P-Cube solution provides an effective solution for the most demanding service provider environments.
